Pelagic Records News: Hypno5e, The Shaking Sensations, Wolves Like Us & Astrosaur

Hypno5e

Hypno5e To Release New Album A Distant (Dark) Source, The Shaking Sensations Release How Are We to Fight The Blight?, Wolves Like Us Releases New Video For Oil & Money, Astrosaur Release Video For Elephant Island.

HYPNO5E have forged the term “cinematic metal” with their truly epic- scope compositions, oftentimes exceeding not only the 10- but the 20- minutes mark, merging elements of contemporary metal with latin folk and soundtrack-score like sonic landscapes.

After the acoustic special album “Alba – Les Ombres Errantes” (2018), the Southern French quartet are now returning with a more “typical” HYPNO5E record, if there is such a thing: their 5th album, “A Distant (Dark) Source”, is the second part of a diptych album project.

Each part will be released separately, starting with the second one.

The Shaking Sensations

“Copenhagen-based instrumental post-rock powerhouse THE SHAKING SENSATIONS unleash their nw album ‘How Are We to Fight The Blight?’ today!

Te band comment: How Are We to Fight The Blight? Is a record that has big emotional and personal importance to us. On many levels it’s a deeply personal piece of work, for us as band members and individual human beings. Two years ago none of us would have expected that we’d ever release new music again – at least not as a band or in this constellation. Things suddenly went fast, and here we are. Today, October 4, is exactly one year ago since we entered the studio in northern Copenhagen and began recording the album.

Years have went by since our latest release and the world has changed a lot in this period. This record is equal part our reflections upon the current state of the planet that we live on as a collective, and our own personal ways of adapting to it and dealing with it as individuals. This record can be described as a reaction provoked by a series of events that questions our existence, but also a testament to not give up hope and act upon it. It has never felt better and more important for us to create music, than this exact moment.

Wolves Like Us

Norway’s WOLVES LIKE US will unleash their fourth album, Brittle Bones, on October 25th via Pelagic Records.

The long-awaited follow-up to 2014’s Black Soul Choir, Brittle Bones — demoed by Kvelertak’s Bjarte Lund Rolland and mixed by Kowloon Walled City’s Scott Evans — displays a more refined and dynamic wolf pack. “There was less tension this time; we almost didn’t argue at all which is rare for us,” relays drummer Jonas Thire. “A lot has happened to us at a personal level. Positives, like we all have kids now. But dark shit, too. There’s been a divorce. [Vocalist/guitarist] Lars [Kristensen] has been really sick. He wrote the lyrics as a kind of diary to deal with issues like abuse, literally and figuratively.”

Lyrically, the thread that runs through Brittle Bones is the topic of honesty. “It’s about dealing with demons in a real way, facing them and giving them the middle finger so to speak,” notes Kristensen. “Brittle Bones is a juxtaposition of the calm and the raspy; comfort and disturbance; beauty and repulsion… for the essence of art can only be understood as equally disturbing the comfortable and comforting the disturbed.”

In advance of its release, today Heavy Blog Is Heavy is pleased to unveil first Brittle Bones single, “Stay Cold.” Issues the band of the track, “This song is about finding that last drop of hope in yourself. When you’re down and out, there’s blood on your hands and you think you’ve lost it all. There’s still a choice.”

WOLVES LIKE US’ Brittle Bones includes a guest vocal appearance with longtime comrade Gared O’Donnell of Planes Mistaken For Stars and will be available on CD, LP, and digital format. See preordering options below. Fans of The Afghan Whigs, Quicksand, Hot Water Music, Planes Mistaken For Stars, Junius, and Drive Like Jehu pay heed.

Astrosaur

ASTROSAUR‘s virtuous necro-nautic universe consists of equal parts instrumental rock and post-metal, studded with lavish prog-, jazz-math-rock and black metal ornaments.

The band comment: “We’re very excited to finally get to share our new album with you.
‘Obscuroscope’ is in many ways a record about curiosity and exploration, and this also reflects the process of making the album.  We’ve been working hard on expanding our sound, and we’re very happy with how it turned out.
Crank it and space out!“

Watch the Video for ‘Elephant Island“

Like the rest of Obscuroscope, ‘Elephant Island’ is inspired by curiosity and explorations. It was only fitting to include video from our own expeditions, so we used footage from concerts in Kristiansand, Berlin and Paris.“
