With a number of singles under the belt and still panting from the release of ‘Hostage’ in July, Perth’s Old Devil have dropped the last single ahead of their debut album release L’appel Due Vibe on 27th September. This is ‘Preacher’.
Preacher sees the band add yet another layer of complexity to their already diverse sonic arsenal, taking their sound to new depths of heaviness and technicality.
Behind each soaring breakdown however lay a much darker context, pulling no punches on social commentary, Preacher digs into the scars that don’t heal. Appropriate given Australia’s own dark religious history.
Old Devil is the latest yield from the WA’s glistening heavy music community, their personal brand of post hardcore and shoegaze culminates with their debut album L’appell Du Vide – The Call Of The Void.
Tracing their roots back to 2016 in many incarnations, Old Devil have solidified into the force of vocalist Kieren Murphy (Little Room, All Eyes On Saturn) bassist/ vocalist Nick Roberts (Altona) guitarists Joshua Mcintee (Paperwalls, Kites, Little Room) and Will Bawden (El Capitan). Fresh from the commune of WA’s glistening heavy music scene, Old Devil is both a fresh breath of air while as familiar as an old friend.
Binding elements of posthardcore/shoegaze and punk elements, it is all brought together under the watch of producer Matthew Templeman (Statues, Make Them Sufer, Voyager) to make L’appell Du Vide a stunning and at times heartbreaking cross section of the genres.
L’appel Due Vide is released on Friday 27th September.
