Following a huge tour across America, Canada, Europe and the UK, Perth’s Psychedelic Porn Crumpets share their new video for ‘Mundungus’, shot by the band on super 8 and taking us along for the ride of their whirlwind past few months. A new favourite addition to the live set, ‘Mundungus’ premiered on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, and is the band’s first release since they shared their acclaimed new album And Now For The Whatchamacallit earlier this year.
“Mundungus is the rare post tour recovery period where all our surrounding friends and family assume we’re crippled with alcoholism, burdened with lives of social estrangement and are far too disillusioned to foresee our self destructive tendencies”.Jack McEwan Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
The music video, taking the viewer into the craziness that has been the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ wild year or so on the road captures lightning in a bottle. This is a band in the centre of the storm and, as the album continues to develop on live stages around the country, the ‘Mundungus’ video offers an insight into the madness.
“Our tour manager/FOH Jack Hoffman took some amazing Super 8 footage from our last few tours. It was a nice way to capture some of those moments; grainy snaps that are barely in focus, pretty similar to how we remember them. It’s a good fit to a song that is about coming home and piecing your life back together after such a transient and emotional demolishing.” Jack McEwan, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
….Whatchamacallit has proven to be hugely significant for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, as they have continued to embrace international and Australian love alike of the back of its release. Touring relentlessly throughout 2019, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have taken both the UK and US by storm. Carrying out a 27 date tour through North America, which included many sold out shows and a session at Seattle’s legendary KEXP Studios, as well as selling out their largest show in the UK to date at London’s Electric Ballroom (1250 capacity), the last 12 months of touring for the band have given them heaps to be reflective on as they anticipate summer back home. Elevating beyond the label of ‘Perth’s next best psych band’, they’ve fast become a formidable presence on the touring circuits abroad and at home; pairing touring success with support across media and radio including Triple J, BBC Radio 1, NPR as well as Q, Classic Rock and DIY – Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have definitely made 2019 their own.
Returning home for this year’s Spilt Milk Festival and summer’s Falls Festival, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are gearing up for a homecoming to remember. “We’re the tightest we’ve ever been at the moment and the most in tune with our live sets,” Jack told Scenestr. “It will be good to go back to Australia and hopefully people will see that evolution that we feel we’ve taken.”
