Sydney instrumental duo Myoora set to release debut EP ‘Moon Grotto’

Myoora is proud to announce the release of their debut EP, Moon Grotto – a courageous three track instrumental rife with complex and intriguing guitar, textured instrumentals and a coy balance between dreamy segments and pummelling riffs.

Co-produced by Jake Howsam Lowe of Helix Nebula & Plini fame, Moon Grotto is the end result of a near six month writing process between partners Daniel Nesci and Daniel Pinto. Taking cues from inspirations such as Plini, Aaron Marshal, Misha Mansoor, Myoora’s dedication to prog technicality and mood-based composition is hastily but efficiently highlighted over the course of this 13 minute EP.

Pinto and I met when I started high school,’ Begins Nesci, ‘as he was teaching guitar and had just graduated from where I was studying. We started talking about writing at the end of 2017 and it took us forever to get anything properly going. We had heaps of tracks at the start of 2018 that were decent yet, after heavy discussions and reflection, we decided to restart and bring a few people in to work with us. Jake Howsam Lowe helped us from April/May onwards as a co-producer and a drum programmer – he’s also tutored both of us. We spent 5-6 months writing and working with him on arrangement to get our heads around how to write music that was appealing to us and just sounded good.’

Moon Grotto, the title track of the EP, quickly rises from a soft, airy introduction into a heaving tide of triumphant guitars and technical prowess. Still gilded with light keys and intricate drums, the song rounds out to an impressive, scorching guest solo from the hands of Stephen Taranto, guitarist of The Helix Nebula – delivered with remarkable precision and soul.

We chose Moon Grotto as a single because it’s our favourite, not just because Stephen does an amazing solo at the end,’ says Nesci. ‘the riff is near impossible to replicate – but that’s not the point. We liked it, it’s fun to play, fun to listen to, full of good hooks on a few riffs and we’re exceptionally proud of one of the heavier chops you can hear around the 2.50 minute mark. Again, we’re super grateful for Stephen’s solo. It was really cool and super nice of him to get on board.

For a first release, Moon Grotto serves as a launch pad for an exciting career for both Nesci and Pinto. In spite of their ages (16 and 22 respectively), the level of talent between these two is undoubtedly at a virtuoso level – Moon Grotto being the first brick in a long road of exceptional songwriting and technical mastery which will resonate in the Australian prog scene for years to come.

Myoora’s Moon Grotto EP is set to be released as of 22 March, 2019. Their first single, Moon Grotto, is available to hear below.
