Approach Of The Epoch is the first single off of the forthcoming Nightmares Of The Sun album due July 2019. A mixture of huge tuned down metal riffs, clean melodic passages and an outro straight from the halls of Prog Rock. This seven and a half minute epic is indicative of what listeners can expect from the album as a whole, and so is a good introduction to Nightmares Of The Sun and what its creator Luke Johnson is trying to achieve both musically and conceptually.
Leaning on the concept of the forthcoming album, Approach Of The Epoch takes listeners on an instrumental progressive metal journey to a strange planet, faced with the prospect of fighting unknown beings. As to where the track fits in narratively with the concept of the album, Luke says “When you reach Approach Of The Epoch you the listener have travelled further than you could have imagined, and the time of reckoning is approaching. But you know now there is a question, how will you overcome… Them? How will you fight back?”.
This retro sci-fi inspired concept tells a story of the bizarre, the cosmic and the terrifying! Taking you to the far reaches of the galaxy to try and understand why your days are barely remembered, and your nights are full of terror.
Nightmares Of The Sun is an instrumental prog-metal band from Sydney, Australia. The solo project of composer and guitarist Luke Johnson, expect to hear big down tuned guitars, prog rock passages, layered synths, melodic leads, long songs, and more of all the great prog metal, post metal, post rock, alternative metal, and instrumental awesomeness you’d want.
From the creative mind of musician Luke Johnson (Synaescope, It Was Earth All Along), Nightmares of The Sun applies the heaviest and most melodic elements of progressive metal inspired by his love of bands like Opeth, Ihsahn and Porcupine Tree to create an instrumental journey in a retro sci-fi inspired concept.
Pushing himself to explore soundscapes outside of the more traditional and melodic death metal that he is known for, Luke has embraced electronic elements, incorporating not only retro keys and mellotrons but an array of synths, drum machines, sound fx, and strings to create a detailed sonic landscape in which to work.
The debut album from Nightmares Of The Sun is due in July 2019. More info can be found at nightmaresofthesun.com
