Hailing from the glorious suburb of Dapto, the band formed as a three piece in 1998 over a shared love of punk and surfing and have continued to engage in both ever since.Vocalist Shane Kinerson, Kino to his mates, also handled drum duties for several years before handing over the sticks to Dan Southern and thus UTI became a four piece, rounded out by Luke ‘Moe’ Malone on guitar, Chris Curci on bass.
UTI play old school punk and roll with Exchange My Brain’s 9 tracks clocking in at under 20 minutes! No track is over 3 minutes and most aren’t even over 2.They are raw, intense and to the point. There is no mucking around with intros, solos or any of that stuff. Get in, make a noise and get out.
While the music may be straight forward kick in the teeth, Under The Influence lyrics are on point and focus on several current issues such as politics via Propaganda Leaks, modern society gets it’s head checked in Zombies, the divide between rich and poor is discussed in Insufficient Fundsand like Tony Robbins with a mohawk, self empowerment is yours via Step By Step.
There a no love ballads or songs about dragons here. Under The Influence hold a mirror up to like in 2019 and it’s not pretty.
Check out the lyric video for the track here.
