Artificial Agent - Death Ray

Detroit’s Artificial Angel have produced a nice Modern Hard Rock album here. Actually make that ‘very good’ and it’s one that sweetens the more you listen to it. They’ve also done something not too many bands achieve in that in essence they sound like a 70’s or early 80’s Hard Rock band, but… and there is a but… they manage to do it without sounding ‘retro’ or sounding like they’ve specified only vintage instruments and valve amps may be used in bringing you this product.

At times you’re thinking Blue Oyster Cult listening to this, at others there’s a bit of Sabbath in the mix but with a side of funk and a splash of Metal it’s more of a gumbo than a genre-stable record, and I like that.

For every chugging rocker like opener ‘Eye For An Eye,’ ‘Waiting To Die’ or ‘Who’s Got The Bat Now?’ there’s a funky side like ‘The Devil Made Me Do It’- a party of a song if ever I heard one, and a track you won’t forget after that very first listen. And for every moment of grace and power like ‘Always a Victim’ there’s a sure fire sing-along like ‘We All Need Heroes.’

All in all this is a great listen and with songs like the funky ‘Strung Out’ and the wonderful ‘Do You Love Me Or What’ to round it out you’ll be coming back for more…
