ALBUM REVIEW: Great White – Stage (2020 re-release)

Deadline Music - February 21st 2020

I was lucky enough to see the original Great White more than a few times back in the day and saw one of the very last few shows Jack played with the band in Henderson NV, as well as the very first with Terry Ilous down at The now defunct Brixton in Redondo Beach. Now of course they have another front man and Jack is on the verge of releasing a live acoustic disc.

This year’s reissue of the classic live album ‘Stage’ captures a band at the peak of their abilities doing what they do best though ‘Stage’ was never a single live show. The first seven tracks here come from a 1994 House of Blues benefit concert (Stage One) and the remaining seven from a 1993 Anaheim show (Stage Two). This edition includes the two additional Japanese bonus tracks ‘Love is a Lie’ and ‘Gone With The Wind’ too which were omitted from other releases.

Why do you need this re-issue? Well it’s a great sounding record and one that has all the hits, and whilst its not a necessity for those that already have the record this has been long out of print and it is a little special – coming both as a 2-CD set in a special mini-LP sleeve or and perhaps most importantly, the release has been pressed on vinyl for the very first time in a double LP gatefold sleeve on white vinyl.

Who can live without the classic ‘Rock Me’ or ‘Save Your Love’ or the two covers of Aussie Band The Angels (Angel City in the US) Face The Day’ and ‘Can’t Shake It’ as well as the Ian Hunter song they made their own ‘Once Bitten, Twice Shy’?
