ALBUM REVIEW: Johnny Gioelli – One Voice (2019)

Frontiers Records - 2019

There’s a real Bon Jovi feel to Johnny Gioelli’s new album ‘One Voice’ and perhaps no more so than on opener ‘Drive’ which is, if you love that kinda thing, excellent. ‘It’ that follows has a lighter touch but is still mightily melodic and just perhaps that is all you need to know because the album plays out in the same excellent fashion.

Had we  not got to this one so late the review might have been longer but it’s hard to think of a better Melodic Rock album released in 2019 and that includes the latest Hardline, for whom Johnny is of course both the voice and the one remaining original member. As such it would easily have made my Top 10 of the year, had only Frontiers sent it our way.

So if you like the opening and want more try these for size:

First check out the wonderfully soulful title track ‘The Voice’ it really is beautiful and for me at least the pinnacle of what is an exceptional listen. Then add a pinch of the Matchbox 20 meets latter day Bon Jovi of ‘Mind Melt.’ Finish with a little of the heavier stuff with the chugging but still very melodic ‘Hit Me Once, Hit Ya Twice.’

And that my friends should leave you completely satisfied.
