ALBUM REVIEW: Miss Crazy – Make America Crazy Again

Miss Crazy Records - 20th August 2019

I’ve had this album for a while now and really enjoy it, I remember it landing late last year and being snapped up by an eager young contributor but when I scanned the site a few weeks back there was nothing there and the eager young contributor was nowhere to be seen. We don’t normally dig back into previous years for reviews but in this case its nice to make an exception.

When Miss Crazy is good they’re actually very good like on opener ‘Six/Disgrace’ which offers up a nice slice of Sunset Strip inspired Sleaze boosted with a little Sigue Sigue Sputnik and a bit of 70’s Glam a-la The Sweet (that vocal in the verses really hits the spot). It works too on ‘Work It Out’ is one of those tunes that is nice and catchy and has a sound that has a little bit of everything, a little Punk, a little Sleaze and even a hint of Kiss

But sometimes though its just not my cup of tea, like on the vaguely industrial ‘Can’t Be Without You’ – its a song that captures a certain sound well its just that its not a sound I think has stood the test of time.

Elsewhere the Hard Rocking ‘Let me Out’ and ‘Lies’ impress as does the slow-burning ‘My Heart Aches’ that somehow seems to balance Dreamboat Annie era Heart with a distinct shot of H.I.M. I’m also a fan of closer ‘The Light’ that has a meatier metallic sound offset by smooth backing vocals. they’re onto something with that. Nicely produced, this might not be anyone’s album of the year but it is certainly worth a listen.
