EP Review: Heavy Pettin’ – 4Play

Release Date: February 14th 2020

Heavy Pettin' - 4Play

Heavy Pettin’ was one of the very first Rock bands I saw live when they and Canada’s Helix supported Kiss at Stafford Bingley Hall many moons ago. I remember being so impressed I splurged my rather modest pocket money on their debut album. It’s one of those great albums that both take you back in time and stand up to scrutiny today.

The new EP ‘4Play’ seems to do the same, it sounds almost as if we’ve picked up exactly where we left off over 30 year ago except the production here is even better (my only fault with the debut). So if you’re a fan from way back then you’ll love this taster of things to come – all the elements are there to remind you of why these guys should have been huge back in the day – something I always put down to them being a little too early on the scene and being from the UK.

As the title suggests the EP contains four tracks and they’re all winners to these ears – from the classy Hard Rocking opener ‘Get Back To You’ – a song which could certainly have graced that debut and simply sizzles with it’s simple but oh so effective refrain. Then there’s the smoother strains of ‘Tell Me Why’, the hard rocking shout and sing-along that is ‘Who We Are and the soothing ballad that closes: ‘Hard To Hold’. Heavy Pettin’ is back with a bang and covering all the bases!

‘4Play’ was recorded at SOR Studios Great Linford in Autumn 2019 and produced and mixed by Gordon Albert Bonnar  and vocalist Hamie: “…the demand and support for new Heavy Pettin’ material has been so overwhelming, we are excited to say we’re now working on brand new HP Album and other projects will also be released later in 2020… and it’s going great!”

Welcome back to one of Scotland’s finest!
