Perth metalcore group Patient Sixty-Seven continue to refine and hone in on their sound with their next release titled “Home Truths” which captures all that the band are about today. We take a look at the tracks on offer and how it all matches up.
“Help Inflicted” starts things off with a groove passageway leading to clean vocals that then switches to a heavy punch as if whacked in the face unexpectedly. The dynamics between the clean parts and the more brutal aspects are seamless with string bending riffs wrapping around the coils of this tight little package. The breakdown halfway is sure to get the crowds going if the band unleash this one live.
“Where To From Here” follows right after and is one of the strongest tracks on the EP. Featuring a helping hand from Sleeping With Sirens frontman Kellin Quinn who gave the band a voice that adds to this song tremendously, the staccato nature of this solid heavy number which was also recently released as a video showcases some of the best elements of the bands sound.
While signature features of the metalcore genre are abundant here, the way those elements are used are done well and utilised in the most appropriate ways without overdoing it. Even the short breakdown comes in, does it’s business, then moves out as quickly as possibly so as not to make it the main focus of the song which at times can be overdone in many groups. It’s things like this that make this song even stronger and one of the highlights on this release.
A little alternative/Nu-Metal inspiration comes in the form of “Blackout” with lots of groove and the use of a little production value being used to great effect. Again without taking too much away from the song itself, the band use technology as a way to project out a musical power that is captured well on the recording.
“What’s Left Of Us” features a little prog, subtle but heard and the dynamic swing found in the track overall also makes for a potential to be a hit song. “Retrograde” sort of has the same vibe but maybe with even more melody and it leaves quite abruptly leaving you almost wanting more which is certainly not a bad thing to have.
Overall Patient Sixty-Seven have done well with “Home Truths“, it sees the band evolve into something even stronger than ever giving the local Perth act some huge potential in the making to create some buzz and a pathway that may open a lot of opportunities in the future.
