EP REVIEW: Rockin’ Volts – Rockin’ Volts

Release Date: September 2019

Rockin Volts

If you like your rock n’ roll stripped back to basics and raw & rowdy, then look no further than the debut self-titled EP from Melbourne’s Rockin’ Volts.  The four-piece band have put together a solid release comprising of three original tracks and an Australian rock classic to close things off with.

Rockin’ Volts take things back to how they should be with loud, riff laden tunes, thumping bass lines & foot stomping pub rock.  The EP opens with the title track and we are instantly introduced to just exactly what the band aim to deliver with their gritty opening riffs reminiscent of Dio’s Holy Diver.  ‘Ball Breaker’ is fast paced and punchy with great rythmn work from drummer Dean Weedon & bassist/vocalist Hayden Scott which drives the song forward with great effect.

Scott’s bassline kicks off ‘Ain’t No Woman’ which has a chorus to hook you in with the guitars of Dylan Stevens & Tyler Theo keeping our ears busy throughout.  The bands influences are obvious throughout this EP but if you needed to be reassured just who these guys have enjoyed listening to over the years then AC/DC’s ‘Let There Be Rock’ puts this beyond any doubt and the band stay true to the original with a few twists & turns through Angus’ famed solo.

An enjoyable tip of the hat to the legendary pub sounds of classic Australian rock, this release is a real “if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it” EP and the energy that they have captured here must be a joy to watch when they get back out on the live scene once more.  If you’re a lover of bands like AC/DC, Airbourne & UK’s City of Thieves then this will most certainly be for you.

7/10
