There are two ways you can look at the new EP by Radio Sun’s Stevie Janevski and Danny Cecati (ex Pegazus & Eyefear) the first is that it’s simply bloody good homegrown Hard Rock music that you don’t need to know the pedigree of the players to realise’ and the second is to listen as a fan of their collective histories and marvel at how versatile these guys are.
This is heavy music which fans of bands like Judas Priest, Dio, Dokken and Skid Row should feel right at home with, but also more generally you’ll love it if you’re a fan of 70’s and 80’s heavy rock and metal. The added intrigue here though is that Paul Laine (ex-Danger Danger and current member of The Defiants) is involved too – co-writing three of the tracks with Janevski with the exception of second track ‘Stronger’ which is a Janevski only composition.
The EP opens up with all guns blazing for the first well-received single ‘We Fall’ -a real in-your-face rocker which gives you a great first taste of what these guys have to offer and tackles the subject of government. It’s a real stormer made to be played live with a great vocal and some searing guitar, both of which stand tall against a wonderful melody.
‘Stronger’ which highlights the issue of bullying in schools and in society in general, might not be staple Rock subject matter but the song is another sizzler with a satisfying touch of ‘Priest’ about it.
And songs like ‘Love’s Got A Hold On You’ (my current favourite) are the sort of compositions tailor made for the sweaty throng of humanity that loves a live show once lock-down frees us from our shackles. This is 80’s styled Melodic hard-edged rock at its finest.
We close with a treatise on the human state of mind with ‘Daze Of Delirium’ an uber-catchy ballsy rocker that rounds out a stunning debut. It’s fair to say that on the strength of these four songs that Wicked Smile haven’t put a foot wrong and are probably incapable of doing so! If you love your Had Rock with a Metal edge then this is one not to miss.
You really need to hear this!
