Ex-QOTSA’S Nick Oliveri teams up with Aussies in new project

The Black Armada

What started as a quick studio session on Nick Oliveri‘s last Australian tour visit in 2019 has ended up becoming a new collaborative project for the ex-QOTSA/Kyuss bassist and Australian act The Black Armada.

Friends, Oliveri and Australian tour promoter Christian Tryhorn, have used CoVid downtime after the initial Melbourne studio session at Hothouse Studio to send working music files back and forward from Australia to the USA alongside producer Julian Schweitzer, eventuating in their debut single ‘Up and Down Under‘ being released this week after a world premiere on Kyuss Radio in the US.

The anticipated track, which tells a tale of Jekyll and Hyde amidst a sea of thick riffage, is the first track born of the new venture with the two acts working on further material across the ocean.  Currently ‘Up & Down Under’ can be downloaded on Bandcamp, with the single to be released across international streaming platforms on September 07.

Christian Tryhorn, guitarist in The Black Armada says of the release “This is pretty much a pinch yourself moment. The track is super fat. A big honour to work with one of my all time favourite bass players.  We’re working on more material, an overseas tour once CoVid releases it’s jaws is going to be super epic.”

The Black Armada supported Oliveri across Australia in 2019 playing a selection of Kyuss and QOTSA tunes to a number of sold out East Coast shows.  Since then they have gone on to support the likes of 1000mods, The Tea Party, Earthless, fellow Kyuss member John Garcia and many more with a view to linking up with Oliveri for an eventual European tour.

Nick Oliveri was scheduled to come out to Australia this year with Mondo Generator after a killer new album release, but that has had to also be placed on the back-burner until international travel resumes.
