Introducing…The Amazons, a powerhouse 12-song collection of singles, LP tracks, and three previously unreleased bonus cuts (including an acoustic version of their signature “Mother”) is available today via Island Records alongside a new video for “Mother” featuring live footage from their UK tour. Coinciding with the album release is tonight’s opening of the “Rolling 7s” tour with LA rockers Dirty Honey, at the Parish in Austin, Texas. The 6-week, 25-city tour wraps up at El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on February 28th.
The Amazons – Matthew Thomson (vocals, guitar), Chris Alderton (guitar), Elliot Briggs (bass), and Joe Emmett (drums), from Reading, England – have been winning over U.S. audiences with their swaggering, scorching brand of music, rooted in the hellfire blues. “From Led Zeppelin, we discovered Howlin’ Wolf,” says Matthew Thomson, “and immersed ourselves in his back catalogue. I read Hellfire, the Jerry Lee Lewis biography, and fell in love with the Biblical language that was used to describe his ‘devil music’.”
The band’s self-titled debut album of May 2017, The Amazons, highlighted by “In My Mind,” “Little Something,” “Black Magic,” “Junk Food Forever,” and “Palace,” sent the British rockers into overdrive. The album hit Top 10 on the UK national chart and a sold-out tour earned the Amazons praise as the most buzzed-about new band of the year.
24 months (and countless live gigs) later came the Future Dust album and another ride inside the Top 10 on the UK national chart. Bursting explosively from the blocks with the menacing lead single “Mother,” the Amazons proved they were here for the long haul. The track was playlisted on BBC Radio 1, along with the incendiary follow-up, “Doubt It.” They played a host of festivals over the summer, including Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Middlesbrough, the Great Escape, Neighbourhood Festival, Reading, Leeds, and more. 2019 closed out with a headline tour across the UK late in the year, ending at London’s O2 Academy Brixton in November.
