With all the craziness of the last few months that has put the world in a spin, one of the drawbacks of the pandemic crisis is the shutdown of the music industry, particularly the touring side of things and the live shows which trickles all the way down to the local music scene. The positives that has come out of this lack of live music is the appreciation and hunger for it to come back, something which has been lacking for quite sometime. All you have to do is loock at old footage from the 80’s and see the crowds stand and cheer in support of their favorite bands down at their locals, it’s a sight severely missing in todays world. What it’s taken for that hunger to arrive is for the music to be taken away, it’s that old saying, “absence makes the heart grow fonder” and this past weekend saw the spark start to fire up again.

On Saturday night June 6th Perth, Australia was one of, if not the very first in line to get that live music scene back again after the recent lifting of the lockdown which has slowly been easing this past few weeks. We all anticipated it, we all knew it would come back again at some point but we just didn’t know when but it feels good to get it back.

This first show proved there was still a passion for music, if just circumstances allowed for it to happen. Sustaining it will obviously be the key and hopefully that will carry forward as we start to see more live shows coming over the next few weeks and months. International touring may be a way off yet but we still have great bands and great music coming through the underground so we need to show the support by being there, in person and cheering it on.
