Matt Cole may be a seemingly fresh face, but the solo Rock artist certainly has a lot to get off his chest. His debut single titled ‘From The Rooftops’ comes prepackaged with a hefty onslaught of emotion, albeit with a strong message that encourages us to fight for what we believe in most. With a highly expressive and uplifting euphony of guitars and emotionally charged vocals, it’s hardly surprising that performing the track brings Matt himself to tears.
Notably, the track was written the same day he was made redundant from his day job, and is also heavily inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic. In his own words, it’s “a way to inspire and help others to believe in a future beyond the uncertainty and struggle found in everyday life”.
From the rural sheep farming fields of Berkshire to the Gold Coast of Queensland, Matt Cole’s personal journey has most certainly influenced the heavily emotive music he creates. Before his journey halfway across the world, he wrote, sang and played the guitar throughout the UK and Southern Germany, but decided to head down under for Australia’s warmth and opportunities.
Writing his own melodies, runs and progressions from a young age, before he even knew his first chord he was already coming up with song ideas using a single guitar string. Fast forward a few years and he was playing in multiple bands that echoed influence from Classic Rock legends Guns N Roses, Bon Jovi and Metallica.
Strong melodies and hard-hitting guitars serve as a vehicle to drive home the emotion that Matt pushes through his vocals and lyrics. These influences stem from his experiences with following dreams, love and loss.
Keeping his music as raw as possible also plays a huge part in Matt’s production, as he wants his vocals to sound pure and not too perfect. Above all, music moves Matt in a way nothing else can, and it’s a way of him opening up and sharing his deepest thoughts and feelings. His debut single, titled ‘From The Rooftops’ premiered on May 1st 2020, a rock-infused anthem that encapsulates Matt’s affinity for emotive writing and musicianship.
