‘Killing Time’, the new single from heavy rock band Red Bee, saw the band embrace their hometown roots of the Blue Mountains NSW (Australia) by choosing to write and record the music at their rehearsal space, the Shelter Studios, earlier this year.
The band flew in producer/engineer/mixer Matthew Templeman (Statues/Voyager/Havoc) from Perth to record and co-produce a series of singles, the first release being ‘Killing Time’. Recorded earlier this year at the bands go-to studio, this is the first music in Red Bee’s twelve year history to be recorded in their hometown.
Daniel Silk (Guitar/Vocals) explains that the theme of ‘Killing Time’ was inspired by Paul Thomas Anderson’s movie ‘Phantom Thead’:
“I was really inspired to explore the concept of a life threatening event being the catalyst for the rejuvenation of a relationship. ‘Killing Time’ takes that theme a step further and injects the idea of rebirth after death into a fictional story.”
The music video for ‘Killing Time’ was shot in the Blue Mountains too. In another first for the band, all three members of Red Bee ((Daniel Silk, Jim Silk (Bass) and Ian Dunn (Drums)) wrote, storyboarded and starred in the video. To truly realize their vision, they worked with local emerging videographer/director/producer Jackson Samuel.
The single’s stark and iconic artwork by Safdar Ahmed (a childhood friend of Daniel’s who also grew up in the Blue Mountains) is a precursor to what is to unfold in the music video.
