After a 12 month hiatus, Perth industrial rockers SPARROW return with a tribute to the influential late frontman, Keith Flint (1969-2019) of iconic UK group ‘The Prodigy‘. With two new members expanding the lineup, the band’s latest release continues the heavy industrial edge of the acclaimed ‘DIGITAL PEOPLE‘ EP.
Formed in late 2010 by Songwriter Sean Hendry and Drummer Clint Gatter, I SAID THE SPARROW began as a side-project for a film that quickly grew into a serious entity. After writing a handful of demos, the boys recruited guitarist Jase Shaw and Bassist Tristan Sturmer to complete the lineup. Shortly after, I SAID THE SPARROW released their first double A-side single ‘I’m a Villain and I’m Online’ which quickly gained them recognition in their hometown of Perth, Western Australia. The popularity of the single allowed them the opportunity to support a list of national touring acts including Amy Meredith, Dead Letter Circus, Twelve Foot Ninja and Tonight Alive.
The band have successfully toured the country three times since 2010, with appearances at the Rock the Bay Festival in Melbourne and the popular Hyperfest in Perth.I SAID THE SPARROW released their highly anticipated debut album ‘DEATHPOP’ through MGM on December 6, 2013. No two reviews for ‘DEATHPOP’ are the same. Some describe it as a rock album, some say it’s pop. Critics are divided as to where this album lies in terms of its genre, but one thing they can agree on is that fans of up-tempo beats and sing-along choruses will dig ‘DEATHPOP’. And dig it hard.
The following years saw the band simplify its name to SPARROW and forge a new sound, keeping their trademark rock/pop sensibilities, yet engaging a darker, industrial tone. After taking a 12 month hiatus in 2018, SPARROW has returned with two new members in bassist Anthony Jackson (Birds of Tokyo, End of Fashion) and Robert Buratti taking over synthesisers and guitar duties alongside Shaw. The band’s latest EP release ‘Digital People’ unveils a new heavier approach showcasing the developed industrial edge which has become a SPARROW trademark. The early reviews for ‘Digital People’ have been nothing short of glowing, and the upcoming live performances will showcase new material alongside a revisioned live presentation to bring a raise the bar even further for the rising Perth band.
