The first ever Wacken Metal Battle in Australia has been launched with cities spread across the country taking turns to see bands have a crack at that coveted spot on the world’s biggest metal festival in Germany – Wacken Open Air. Perth got their turn this past Saturday with a fantastic turn out for what would be considered a local show, and the bands delivered in spades with every act on the bill giving it their all.
On the lineup were all relatively underground bands who are starting out for their chance at fame and glory. Bayview Suspect kicked off the night with their groove based deathcore influenced sound and early on, punters showed up in droves to see the young act in action.
Dying Kings rocked out in full black metal assault with speed and precision while Illyria continued the extreme stuff with an injection of melody into the mix. Coming in from Bunbury were Septillion who went in full charge followed by thrash metallers Remission who slayed the crowd with a brutal set.
On the later part of the night, Tempest Rising came in and conquered all as they continued their winning formula and the melodic power of Icarus Lives followed right after to contest it all as did industrial heavy hitters All This Filth who rounded out the night with an explosive set witnessed by a still strong army of fans who managed to stick around for the entire night.
The show was a true testament to what Perth has to offer in the way of metal bands and strong support for the scene. Good luck to Tempest Rising as they hit Melbourne for the final round before Wacken and we hope to see this all happen again next year!
