If anything this second album is a little Punkier than the first, and really focuses on the Sleazier side of the tracks without really channeling any of the 80’s Glam vibe. The Punk hits with tracks like ‘Nothing But Darkness’ and ‘Day By Day’ which really get the blood umping and the Sleaze comes with the title track and ‘Sweet Marie’. It’s the in-between ground though that works best for me, when the band seems comfortably genre-less. Remember those days when a good band was just a good band, and Rock and Roll was a state of mind rather than an infinitely split and categorized series of genre tags? Well you’ll hear that on songs like that first single as well as on ‘Living on the Edge of the Knife’ and ‘She’s Nowhere’ where that early New York Punk 70’s vibe really kicks in.
Best of all though just might be the more delicate handling of ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ or the Johnny Thunders nod that is ‘Dick in the Dirt’. For once the press release does actually hint as what lies within: “Poison Boys are bringing you back to 1977 with this new album, transporting you to a time and place you may not have even existed during, but definitely wish you were there for. “
