The third installment of “Coronation” which has previously seen bands from around the Australiasia part of the world be a part of this event hit Amplifier Bar in Perth this past weekend. A selection of some of the more extreme bands of WA coming together for a full night of heavy music, with many of the bands either celebrating releases or some saying goodbye.
Flesh Worship kicked things off and already a solid buildup of punters had come early to see these youngers launch their debut album “debut Masked Carnality”. Heavy on the groove and brutal in their sound, the upand coming band showed where the future was as they pummeled the crowd with a sonic blast of groove oriented death metal.
Veterans Bloodlust showed why old school still rules with their blackened thrash sound. One of the highlights of the night for sure, the band instigated some movement in the pit while thrashing it out on stage and ending things with Slayer’s Fight ‘Til The Death. For anyone that remembers Shrapnel from back in the day, these guys were right up that alley.
It’s always unfortunate to see a band call it a day and sometimes it’s an inevitable choice that has to be made. Solum, who have been kicking around for a while certainly made their mark on the scene with a few highlights in their career including opening for Bolzer a couple of years ago but tonight was sadly their final show (at least for the time being if things change). The band made sure they gave it their all for one last headbang as they proceeded to crank out their trademark wall of sound to the crowd who by now had filled the room quite nicely which was a great send off to see. We wish the band all the best and hope to see them in other future projects.
Woewarden stepped up next and provided the further extremities of atmospheric black metal. There was no denying these guys meant business and having only just recently come back to the live gigs after a bit of a hiatus period meant some extra savagery on stage to make up for lost time was needed, which they more than heaped onto the sea of bodies who now filled the front of the floor.
Wardaemonic are another veteran act who have been punishing ears for a good number of years now and tonight they return with the launch of their new album “Acts of Repentance”, another slab of black metal goodness. The full stage presence was felt with another blast of brutality hitting the speakers and wiping punters out, the switch of vocals between the drummer and guitarist also another highlight and really showcasing some dynamics that Wardaemonic love to put out there.
The great thing about Coronation III was not just the quality of the bands but the great support of the punters who showed up in full swing to make this another great event. Kudos to everyone involved for the great night!
