BLUESFEST 2022 – THURSDAY 14TH – MONDAY 18TH APRIL 2022
Bluesfest Byron Bay 2022 heralded the return of live music in a major festival format after a 2-year enforced hiatus. It is just incredible after the past two years to see the Bluesfest name sit at NUMBER 1 on industry bible Pollstar’s Global Live Box Office Reports for the highest grossing worldwide sales this week. It is a grand salute to the Australian Music Industry as a whole that Bluesfest, with its predominantly all-aussie line-up, can sit proudly on top of the world.
The return of Bluesfest was not only a sign of the Australian public’s desire to see the return of live music at a major level, but also a triumph for all the musicians and Bluesfest crew in every department who toiled tirelessly to present Bluesfest after a 3-year enforced gap.
And what a triumphant weekend. The roar of the crowd, from the moment The War & Treaty played the first set of the festival on Thursday 14th April on one of Bluesfest’s five stages and brought live music back, was echoed time and time again throughout the weekend, and not just reserved for headliners Crowded House, Midnight Oil, Paul Kelly, Amy Shark, George Benson … the roars of appreciation greeted EVERY artist who stepped on to the Bluesfest stages. All up over 100 artists performed without any cancellations over five days and nights at Easter, watched by well over 100,000 attendees.
WE ALL DESERVED THIS MOMENT.
Australian festivals are well and truly back, and Bluesfest has proven once again that we are Australia’s premier music festival. Bluesfest was listed amongst the top 10 festivals of the decade by Pollstar in 2021, alongside the winner, the Coachella festival, the Glastonbury festival, Rock in Rio plus the world’s best.
