Legendary songwriter and founding member of INXS, Andrew Farriss has rescheduled his 2022 Tamworth Country Music Festival show at Moonshiners Honky Tonk Bar. The show – locked in for the new April Festival – will also feature special guest Jemma Beech. Andrew will be showcasing material from his recent debut solo album, and other great songs he has written across his career.
Andrew has written, produced and performed music across the globe, with artists such as Yothu Yindi, Tom Jones, Alison Porter, Tania Kernaghan and Jenny Morris. With his band INXS, he received three Grammy-award nominations, 10 Australian Top 10 singles and seven U.S. Top 10 singles. Since penning his solo material, he has been overwhelmed by the way the Australian and international country music scene has embraced him and his new journey.
Andrew’s appearance at this year’s Tamworth Country Music Festival is even more special as he celebrates a Golden Guitar nomination for his new album. The gun-slinging track With The Kelly Gang, from Andrew’s self-titled debut solo release, which paints a vivid picture of Australian history, earned the Heritage Song Of The Year nomination. Releasing With The Kelly Gang to radio marked an important part of the new musical direction that Andrew is heading in. When he was writing and recording his self-titled solo album, he knew from the start that he wanted to tell the story of an Australian outlaw, to bring the album full circle from its tales of international cultural spirituality, back to home. Penning the track with Mark and Jay O’Shea in Nashville, it was a defining moment. With The Kelly Gang also resonated with him, particularly as someone who has lived and worked long-term on the land.
No stranger to the Tamworth region, Andrew lives on a working farm not far out of town and calls the region home. He says he when the original dates of the Tamworth Country Music Festival were changed, he knew he had to do everything he could to ensure he could be there to support the local music community in April. “Tamworth is a very special community,” he says. “One that not only encourages country music, but has nurtured, embraced and supported country music. I feel fortunate living in the North-West of New South Wales, and to be part of this great community.”
Bringing music from his self-titled solo album to the festival with his live band is something Andrew has been looking forward to. His band features Lawrie Minson (on steel and banjo), Travis New (on lead guitar), Ashleigh Leef (on vocals) and Timothy Sampson (on bass). “The plan is to rock the house with the band, and then some,” he says. “In addition to tracks from my album, I will also be playing some songs from my EP release Love Makes The World.”
Tickets to see Andrew Farriss perform at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in April are on sale now. Andrew’s debut self-titled solo album, and EP – Love Makes The World – are out now.
