Freo.Social was the setting for a stripped back night of exceptional music from former Saints and Laughing Clowns legend Ed Kuepper and his equally talented counterpart, drummer Jim White. A crowd of around 350-strong gathered to enjoy a night of music from the Kuepper & White’s song books but played quite differently to how we would expect them… and yes, it worked oh so well. The night kicked off in equally impressive fashion with a raw display from Kill Devil Hills comprising of Luke Dux, Brendan Humphries and Todd Pickett, who’s drum kit tonight was a suitcase & muffler.
Kuepper & White have had plenty of stop/starts to this tour so to finally see them nearing its completion is a relief to them both, with many of the shows sold out across the country. Ed recently told The Rockpit that each night plays out slightly different to the last, as the two play off each other with natural spontaneity, which in turn keeps the show fresh and somewhat challenging. Kuepper’s dead-pan humour punctured the air between songs from The Saints and Laughing Clowns amongst others. The show ended with a rousing version of ‘Everything I’ve Got Belong To You’ with the crowd joining in as a way of showing just how appreciative they were of the quality of the evening they had enjoyed.
