LIVE REVIEW: Ghost with special guest Volbeat and Twin Temple – Minneapolis, MN, February 5th 2022

TARGET CENTER, MINNEAPOLIS, MN

The owners of the show or a newer band Twin Temple. I’ve heard a lot about this band because they are supposed to be dedicated Satanists. Right away I’m skeptical because I’ve seen almost every band there is to see especially in the shock rock genre. I’m still not sure if they are actually Satanists but I can tell you this, the music is really catchy. It sounds like something that would have been produced in the late 50’s, early 60’s by Phil Spector. i didn’t know any of the songs and they included some of their newest material like “Let’s Have a Satanic Orgy” and “Sex Magick”. Who is a very strange experience because I found myself really enjoying the music. It’s certainly different than the other bands on the bill that night. It will be fun to watch what happens to them in the coming years.

Volbeat was the second act on the bill. I’ve seen Volbeat several times over the last four or five years and grow to like them more every time I see them. They are straightforward rock and roll. originally from Copenhagen, they have made quite an impression in the United States and have a lot of fans that follow them. They had a fantastic Light show and a massive video screen. They have a lot of interesting images to go along with the songs which added to the live show.

The opened up with “Seal the Deal” and went on to play all of their most popular songs including “Shotgun Blues, “Fallen” and “Wait a Minute Girl” which is my personal favorite. If you’re not familiar with Volbeat, you love rock and roll, you owe it to yourself to give them a chance. I think Michael Poulsen Has one of the best voices in rock and roll today.

Finally, Ghost the headliner of the evening. I genuinely like this band I’ve watched them go from a club act all the way now to basketball arena’s. It’s been a fun ride to watch because I’ve always believed that they had what it took to get to where they are at this point. Of course, the most obvious aspect is the incredible production, make up, secrecy and costumes. But it’s much more than that because the music is good. I would have made the same argument about Kiss. If you really consider yourself to be a fan of rock and roll music, then you must give this band a listen if you’re not familiar.

I’m always hesitant to make comparisons but everyone’s always looking for that. The one that comes to mind for me is Blue Öyster Cult. For you younger people that aren’t aware of them, it’s a poppy sounding hard edged approach to rock music. Ghost’s catalog is really expanding as the band seems to change with each release. Although they didn’t play the single off their upcoming record, “Call Me Little Sunshine”. However, they did play two of my favorites, “Rats” and “Square Hammer”. Both Ghost and Volbeat played 75 minutes because this is a Co-headlining tour. The fans left happy though. Lots of smiling faces and lots of merch sold. In fact, when I was walking out of the arena there were two ghost fans in front of me and one said to the other, “I really wish they would have played longer. But they did the absolutely perfect set list”. First off that’s a miracle to ever hear a fan say that. Secondly it was great to see a nearly sold-out crowd enjoying a rock and roll band. I will continue to support this band because I think they’re great. Give him a shot I think you might find out there great as well.
