Admittedly I had never heard of Plush until the day of the show. I didn’t want to go in with any preconceived notions, so I didn’t listen to any of the music ahead of time. I assumed that they’re probably harder edged because they’re opening for Slash. Turns out I was right and pleasantly surprised.
Plush is made up of four young ladies who are determined to bring rock and roll back into the spotlight. Their songs are very well written with excellent hooks. They were very entertaining, energetic, and seemed to really go over well with the crowd. They sound like someone stand that’s established but now the morning after I still can’t quite put my finger on it. The only song I recognized was Heart’s “Barracuda”. I can tell you this though, if they keep working hard and get good exposure, I think they can make an impact. I will definitely see them again if given the chance.
Headliners brought the house down. The first thing I’d like to say is how refreshing it was to see a band play a variety of songs throughout their history and even a few songs from Slash’s Snake Pit. Without touching any Guns and Roses songs. I know there were a few disappointed fans, but there were very few. People were on their feet singing along from the first note to the last. They played two covers, a Lenny Kravitz song “Mama Said” because Slash has a co-write on that song. And “Rocket Man” the Elton John song.
They played several songs off the new record which I highly recommend you pick up. They played a very long set which included “Actions Speak Louder Than Words”, “Fill My World”, “Doctor Alibi”, “World on Fire”, “Speed Parade”, “Serve You Right”, “You’re A Lie”, “Anastasia” and “Driving Rain” to name a few.
There are so many things I appreciate about this band. Myles Kennedy could be one of the greatest rock and roll singers alive today. He could sing the phone book and I would listen. But I could say the same thing about Todd Kerns the bass player. I’ve seen Todd play with Bruce Kulick and his voice is undeniable. Brent Fitz the drummer, is also incredible in his own right. On rhythm guitar Frank Sidoris is equally talented. And finally, Slash himself. I’ve never been a huge Guns and Roses fan, but I really enjoy the music he is making with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. His guitar playing is incredible. What I appreciate most about it is the melodic nature. It doesn’t sound like a bunch of bees buzzing. I was really impressed last night with the level of talent in this band, it is off the charts. And you could see how much they were enjoying playing to this sold-out crowd. If you get a chance go out and see them, I promise you will not be disappointed.
