Sky Cave don’t shy away from difficult conversations.
In a completely vulnerable turn, the 3-piece band from Perth shine a light on the destructive effects hidden mental illness can bring if left alone and untreated in latest single ‘Fall’. Exploring hope in the face of darkness, Sky Cave’s genuine empathy and nuanced approach is piercingly personal, yet comforting as they provide a well needed voice of compassion after the last couple of years.
“This song is about being there for each other through chaotic times. It was based around the theme of the feeling individuals can experience when the world and their surroundings become too much for them to handle. Sometimes all it can take is one person’s support to change your whole mindset’’ Sky Cave.
From Western Australia, Sky Cave pulls aural influences from blues and rock legends like Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Led Zeppelin, and closer to home from contemporaries Ocean Alley, Middle Kids, and Wolfmother. Their sound can be described as top-shelf whiskey oozing smoothly over rusted iron rivets. Equal parts brilliant and filthy, they have all the pedigree of the great rock acts yet the exciting innovation of a newly emerging one. With a string of sold-out shows attesting to their sound, the 3-piece from Perth prove themselves fluent in delivering a killer live show.
Sky Cave’s ultra confident rock, swagger laden groves, and the iron-riveted tone of lead vocalist Oliver Quinlan burst onto the Aussie scene in 2020. Bringing together Oliver Quinlan (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Lachlan McRobert (Lead Guitar) and Elijah Crouch (Piano/Synthesiser), these three musicians bring forth a refined and brilliant sound.
Traversing genres, versatility as musicians stands at the forefront of their artistry. Speaking of this collaborative approach lead guitarist Lachlan McRobert says “Sky Cave is a collective idea, formed from equal parts of all the brains involved – which is a process that has been a foundation since the band started. I love the fact that we have this kinda Blues, Psychedelic, Rock, Metal, Pop sandwich – I really wouldn’t have it any other way”.
Recorded, mixed and mastered by multi-award winning singer songwriter Nathan Gaunt from Central Studios. The resulting mix is speckled with smatterings of synths and high production value that elevates this track into an expansive listen.
Since selling out their debut single launch at Jack Rabbit Slims in 2020, Sky Cave have continued with vigour a string of successful 2021 and 2022 Perth and regional shows (largely sold out). Selling out headline shows at Mojos Bar (Fremantle), Indi Bar (Bunbury), The River Hotel (Margaret River), Governors Bar (Rottnest), The Pier Hotel (Esperance) to name just a few – it’s clear that Sky Cave have carved out a diligent following and name for themselves in the time that they’ve been riffing. Beyond this they’ve shared the stage with notable local bands like Old Mervs, Pretty Uglys and Late 90s.
This release is accompanied by a launch at Mojos Bar in Fremantle on August 11th. Supported by Circa the Sun, Cloud Shape and Sgt Hulka, this show is the distillation of Sky Caves refined live act, and will be a night of pure artistry.
“This release symbolises a new era of Sky Cave. Quinners, Elijah and I have been working our a**es off this year to get the formula just right. We’ve found our rhythm in the process of writing this song both on and off the stage, both in and out of the recording studio and most importantly, we’ve found ourselves on the same page when it comes to where Sky Cave is going and what it is to us. Get ready to witness something special at Mojo’s on the 11th of August. We can’t wait to show you.” Sky Cave
Utterly thrilling, this hell-bent power ballad filled to the brim with guitar fuzz and woozy riffing will reverberate through your core. Listening to Sky Cave’s ‘Fall’ is utterly transportative, scratching that itch for transformative rock done exceptionally well.
