SoCal punk outfit Unwritten Law vow to keep you up all night as they embark on an extensive Australian tour. Be transported to balmy nights under Californian skies as the ’90’s punk outfit perform their brand new album The Hum – 17 dates, 5 states and a night overflowing with new music and nostalgia. The ’90’s punk pioneers will tour extensively through Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria, rounding off with dates across Western Australia and South Australia.
“Hey, Australia! Since this is the longest break we’ve had from our favourite place to tour and we’ve got a brand new record to share with you, we’re beyond excited to present to you: The Hum Tour,” said guitarist and vocalist Chris Lewis.
“Not only will we be giving you different set lists every night, we’ll be unveiling songs off our newest album, The Hum, some for the first time ever! We’re playing quite a few shows, so we’re gonna make sure there are unique surprises every night. We can’t wait to see you all out there,” said Lewis.
Hear some of the hits that defined the ’90’s Cali punk scene such as ‘Seein’ Red’, ‘Save Me’, ‘Up All Night’, and ‘Cailin’ as well as their new material from The Hum.
Their first album in over a decade, The Hum is a concept album divided into the four phases of the waxing and waning of the moon. It sees a return to form for the veteran punk outfit, exploring themes of truth and beauty, reality and fantasy. It was released in 2022 with a short film to accompany their singles ‘Magnetic’ and ‘The Hum’. The short film features Tyler Posey and Tehya Elam as they enter an alternate reality called The Hum, eventually becoming enamoured with the fantasy world and refusing to return to reality.
“It almost feels like a new band,” said long-time singer Scott Russo.
If there was one word to describe this latest endeavour, it would be serendipitous. Everything that lead up to the bands 7th studio release The Hum seems to have been written in the stars.
“We were supposed to hand the record in the month the pandemic hit and it just wasn’t there,” said Russo. “The label was like, we don’t want to put it out until you can tour so we took an extra year to make sure we had it, and we did.”
The record presents a movement away from their heavier punk roots, and explores a mellower, more mature sound. The Hum was produced by Joe Marlett who gained acclaim working with Blink-182 and Queens of the Stone Age.
Formed in 1989 in Poway, California, Unwritten Law were pioneers of the SoCal punk scene, and have undergone a series of lineup changes over the past few years.
The current lineup has been together for 14 years, with Scott Russo on vocals and guitar, Wade Youman on drums, Jonny Grill on bass, and Chris Lewis and Scott McLaughlin on guitar and vocals.
Now Australia should prepare to be shown the Cali sky, with tickets on sale 12pm Thursday AEDT 22 December.
