COLIN BUCHANAN Returns With New Single ‘Little Barefoot Millie’

In a career spanning over 30 years, Colin Buchanan has picked up multiple ARIA, APRA and Golden Guitar Awards as an artist and songwriter for the who’s-who of country music.

His latest offering is a new country single titled ‘Little Barefoot Millie’, with an album due for release later in 2023.  Produced by multiple ARIA and Golden Guitar winning Matt Fell (Troy Cassar-Daley, Fanny Lumsden, Morgan Evans) at The Music Cellar on the NSW Central Coast, ‘Little Barefoot Millie’ was inspired by a true story of a missing girl.

Says Colin, “I heard a radio news report some years back about a little girl who’d wandered off alone from the family farmhouse while she was playing. When her distraught mother realised she was missing and was unable to find her a massive search was launched. There were obvious fears for her safety, especially given the cold conditions overnight. It was her Uncle Andy who discovered little barefoot Millie the following morning, some distance from home, asleep with Dasher, one of the farm dogs. The little girl was safe and well and was quoted in the report as saying, “I wasn’t lost. I was with Dasher.” A remarkable true story. And the song was just waiting to be written!”

With a storied career spanning more than three decades, Buchanan has released over 40 albums, racked up 4 x ARIA awards nominations, won an APRA Songwriters Award for Most Performed Country Work, and won 9 x Golden Guitar awards. Recording Christmas albums with fellow singer-songwriter Greg Champion under the moniker “Bucko and Champs”, the revamped perennial ‘Aussie Jingle Bells’ with its new lyrics full of Australian vernacular, is now staple at annual Christmas celebrations all over the country, sung by people young and old.

With all this activity, Buchanan has remained a valuable song writing partner, lending his talents to collaborations with Troy Cassar-Daley, Lee Kernaghan, Adam Brand, Tania Kernaghan and others, with many songs winning Golden Guitar awards in the process.
