‘Shallow’ features Temperley on guitar, bass and percussion, Daniel Connell on lead guitar and Jack O’Dell on drums. Haylee’s vocals are complimented by the ethereal, delicate yet driving sounds crafted by these seasoned musicians. Her soulful vocals are given space allowing her voice to shine.
‘Shallow’ is a dreamy song that flows to the rhythm of swaying, nostalgic beats. As a songwriter, Haylee has evolved into a storyteller and ‘Shallow’ is a story with depth and passion.
”Shallow is written about the dance between 2 people, the magnetic push and pull. It is about getting closer but never getting close enough. It’s the unsaid words and the courage to ask for truth. In shallow I speak my truth and the truth is, I won’t do shallow.”
Robins was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia. Her wide vocal range varies from contralto, alto to mezzo-soprano. This gives her the ability to sing various styles and genres of music. Haylee cut her teeth singing ACDC, The Doors and Nirvana in her first band at 16 and quickly progressed to writing lyrics. In 1999 and at 20 years of age, Haylee first entered the recording studio with her original band Cactus Lush.
Haylee is prolific songwriter who continued to write during her hiatus from the music scene while raising a family. Her song writing regained strength in 2020 when she helped form the original Perth band ‘Bohemian Crash’. Though short lived, an EP was released containing the single White Lake 69.
Haylee has performed at many venues in Perth over the past 25 years including Badlands, Amplifier Bar, Milk Bar, Indian Ocean Hotel & Port Beach Garden Bar.
In October 2021, Haylee was involved in the Perth United project to raise money for Telethon. The Perth United project brought Perth musicians together to write, record and release a song within 12 hours. The result of this collaboration was the release of the song Diamond Child which gained radio play on local radio station 107.3 HFM.
Haylee released her first solo EP ‘Passing Time’ in December 2022. Containing four songs, the EP was recorded, mixed and mastered by Daniel Connell, the formidable lead singer of Amberdown & Black Kanyon.
Available on streaming platforms from 3 November 2023.
