INTERVIEW: Desi Rexx – D’Molls 777 (ex-Dave Lee Roth Band)

Over the years I’ve loved talking to some of the great bands that strode the Sunset Strip in the late 80’s. For me there were plenty of gems up there amongst the also-rans. Some of the best bands on the scene we all know now failed to take that next step on the ladder not because of any lack of will or talent but because of Record Label apathy and misguidance. D’Molls appeared in 1988 like a band from another world – at my local club they played songs from that classic first record and on the day it came in on import I was first in the queue to buy it. By the time ‘Warped’ the equally cool second record landed two years later the band was almost over. In those pre-internet days it was hard to know why or what happened. I flew to the US in 2009 to catch the band play the Rocklahoma festival almost 20 years after they played their previous show.

For me D’Molls were one of those rare bands that could pull off Glam – they had a style of their own and lyrics and songs that weren’t your simple Cookie-Cutter Poison wannabees.  There was an element of mystery and mystique about them and despite subsequent releases over the years it’s great to hear that Desi is putting out a new record. We had to talk. If you like the interview let us know as I’d love to dig deeper next time around…
