LIVE REVIEW: Gyroscope with special guests Bodyjar

Magnet House, Perth - 8th September 2023

Gyroscope

It’s been a while between drinks for the Melbourne punk band lads of Bodyjar, a few years since they graced the stages of the Perth local scene and treated the faithful to a full jar if you pardon the pun. The crowd massed forward once the lights dimmed as the familiar silhouettes entered from the rear of the stage.

Bodyjar

They fired up and delivered a back catalogue serving of ‘No Touch’ dropping cracking tunes like ‘Maze’, ‘Fragile Happiness’, ‘You Say’, ‘Return to Zero’, ‘Hide Away’ and  ‘Let Them Loose’ as well as a few sneaky encore songs to leave all the punters smiling from ear to ear. The band ended their set with one of the crowds favourites – ‘Million’.

Bodyjar

The energy was reciprocated throughout the performance, the lads gave it and the crowd passed it back. It was like an emotive game of pass the parcel, song after song removing another memory like a layer of paper until the end prize was given – a massive smile of approval and acknowledgment. Well played lads, well played! I loved it!

Bodyjar

Perth’s own Gyroscope are a staple in our music scene. They have engaged massive crowds at festivals to intimate gigs in smaller venues – it doesn’t matter to them as it is all about the music. You know shit’s going to get wild, hectic and electric when these four artists get on the stage. The energy in room could power the whole city ten-fold – a new source of sustainable energy for the musical planet – maybe Gyroscope need a bigger RCD switch as I’m thinking that this performance will blow a circuit or two!

Gyroscope

They were set to deliver the musical charge from the Breed Obsession album (along with a few sneaky others). This is an album loaded with songs that are designed to overload your senses. They opened with ‘All in One’ before charging through ‘Polyphons and Multidors’, ‘Silverheart’, ‘Snakeskin’, ‘Her Design’ and finished off with cult classics like ‘Time’ and ‘Baby I’m Getting Better’.

Gyroscope

It was a night of energy, emotion, history and class… from crowd surfing to head banging. I left with a sore neck a massive smile and ringing ears. Check out both Bodyjar and Gyroscope’s social media platforms for touring details, as this is one gig you won’t want to miss!
