Italian four-piece rock sensation Måneskin, blew audiences away with their Rush! World Tour. The band composed of lead vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria (Vic) De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi, and drummer Ethan Torchio, have gained widespread popularity through their unique sound and incredibly captivating stage presence.
As proven last night, Måneskin’s impressive talent was the only thing needed to stir the audience up into a frenzy. Taking to an almost bare black stage, lined with only their instruments, and a raised platform for the drums, Måneskin performed with no visual displays, backdrops, or set pieces and fully showcased their talent.
One of Måneskin’s undeniable strengths lie in their ability to connect with their audience. Throughout the concert, the bands interaction with the crowd was next level. Band members were crowd-surfing and parading through the mosh while performing, fostering a sense of camaraderie and unity. Their energy can only be described as contagious, igniting a fervour within the audience that reverberated through the venue.
Opening the show each band member made their own signature entrance one by one, slowly adding each instrument until they erupted into the highly upbeat “Don’t Wanna Sleep.” Seamlessly transitioning their songs their performance of “Gossip” was nothing short of rambunctious, with Damiano throwing his microphone stand to the floor, his energy matched by the crowd who looked like they were having the best night of their life.
Their next number, Eurovision winner “Zitti E Buoni” is sung completely in Italian. This, however, did not stop dedicated fans from screaming along to the song. With the energy continuing to build, Thomas wows the crowd by playing the bass behind his head to deafening cheers.
Damiano took time to address the audience and thanked them for the very sweet welcome the band had received. For their first performance in Melbourne, Damiano said the welcome was “sweet like honey,” as the band launched into the very fitting “Honey (Are You Coming).”
The bands’ chemistry is undeniable. Their playful interactions with each other showcase their strong bond and damn, do they look like they’re having a blast!
Taking a moment Damiano asked the audience if we can get serious for a moment, before changing pace and moving into the slow “Coraline,” supported by a strong and haunting vocal performance. Then, the time to be serious is over and we get back into the frenzy once again.
A real treat for the audience was Måneskin performing every new track from their most recent extended album, released only two weeks ago on November 10th. After several more energetic numbers, the band moved through the crowd to make their way to a small secondary stage at the back of the mosh pit. It’s there Damiano, Thomas, and Ethan (now donning a guitar), set up to play an acoustic set.
To begin, the three members delivered a soulful performance of one of their new songs “Trastevere.” Next Damiano confessed to feeling “big pressure” as he states the singer of their next cover song happens to be in attendance tonight. Damiano, initially feeling a little flustered with his words, steps into a strong, confident stripped back performance of Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl.”
As Damiano and Thomas headed back to the main stage, the audience were treated to an incredible bass and drum instrumental that (once the band is back and ready) launched into the famously popular “I Wanna Be Your Slave.” Vic surfed the crowd, and Damiano proudly waved an Italian flag keeping the feverish energy of the crowd at an all-time high. Damiano called out to the crowd, saying “it’s great to see so many Italians here; that’s why you’re so loud tonight.”
As the night began to wrap up, the band performs their final song “Kool Kids.” As an added treat, lucky fans were plucked from the mosh to dance with the band on stage. It was truly a night that would not soon be forgotten.
The band remained on stage and performed the entire time (except when moving from one stage to the other), and never once even looked like they were losing any energy. Their incredible stamina to deliver a performance lasting over two hours was a truly awe-inspiring sight.
Coming back for an encore, Thomas returns with a jaw-dropping guitar solo that leads into the heartfelt number “The Loneliest,” where the rest of the band has re-emerged on stage to join suit. For the final number, the band re-performs their crowd favourite “I Wanna Be Your Slave” finishing the night on a truly electrifying performance.
