It was a night of fond farewells as friends, families and fans came to bid power rock trio WARBIRDS safe passage and best wishes, before they head off to the UK for a series of shows which include the mighty Hard Rock Hell in Great Yarmouth.
Kicking the night off was four-piece band hard rockers Instynkt, who back up their music with equally strong vocals. Entertaining from the off they powered through a set of high-quality original rock tracks before closing with the a well delivered cover of AC/DC’s ‘Let There Be Rock’, a song that summed up their performance perfectly tonight.
If you love Jet then you’ll love The Revolation. This is a band you need to check out, they are Jet but on another level. Lead singer and guitarist, Dean Wittmann-Lamb sports the best Moustache in Aussie rock and once again showed he has a brilliant voice to match. Musically they were tight and on point with lead guitarist Damien Zylstra, bass guitar is Gordon Lewis and drummer Scott T Rock showing that they can consistently deliver with the best of them, playing all original songs which are good solid rock tunes. If you are ever in Melbourne keep an eye out for The Revolation – you won’t be disappointed. Their next gig is on the 18th November at the Boogieman Bar on Hoddle Street. Check them out!
Warbirds entered the fray with lead vocalist and guitarist Anth Nekich in fine form. With the line-up now well and truely set for the tour, the band blazed through a set of their ever impressive originals, with bass guitar is Danny Slaviero adding an extra dimension with his exceptional vocals and the smiling assassin Luciano Alvaro on drums, who killed every beat of the skins.
Warbirds have always been renowned for their a big sound and tonight was no exception, as they tore through their set, loud and proud, with lead singer Nekich showing he has a voice to match. If you love guitar, then this is a guitar lovers band with great hooky powerful riffs a-plenty.
Tonight’s set was most their original songs with a couple of wonderful covers thrown in. My favourite cover was the song from the movie “Rockstar”, ‘We All Die Young’. The band had the crowd standing mesmerised by the awesome sound they produce. A superb night of hard rock played in the excellent setting of The Leadbeater in Richmond.
