Luke Morley, Thunder’s lynchpin guitarist and songwriter, continues his triumphant solo adventures into musical pastures new with the release of his latest single and accompanying video ‘Watch The Sun Go Down’ ahead of the release of his album, ‘Songs From The Blue Room’  on 23rd June through Conquest Music.

‘Songs from The Blue Room’ features the finely honed top-tier song writing that Luke has provided for Thunder over 14 albums. However, the arrangements and Luke’s lead vocals make this album feel very different from his day job. This is a singer songwriter at the very top of his game. The production seamlessly switches from breezy, west coast rock to heartfelt bar-room ballad and will sit as comfortably on daytime radio as it will on specialist rock and Americana stations.

“I think that people have expectations of Thunder and see Thunder as being very much a rock band or hard rock band, call it what you will, so the joy of being able to make a solo album is that I can go anywhere I want musically. I don’t think people don’t have any preconceptions about how it’s gonna be and if they do it’s not something that I would worry about because I think the whole point is to make a record that’s not like a Thunder record! This for me is about doing something different and maybe getting a few of those things out of my system that might not be appropriate for Thunder.”

Luke’s solo songs and album have impressed reviewers;
“’Songs from The Blue Room’ has undeniably proved to be an album of quality,” said Metal Planet Music, impressed by “Luke Morley’s fabulous ability to create and perform an amazing set of varied musical gems.”

“The quality of the writing and performance is top drawer,” agreed Blues In Britain.

Meanwhile, Great Music Stories called ’Songs from The Blue Room’ “A masterclass in the art of great song writing…” and said it should be “your essential album for Summer 2023”, awarding it 5/5 and Album of the Month.

“I always thought WTSGD was going to be a single,” Luke reflects, “It’s a song I wrote very quickly which is usually a good sign. It’s got a very summery vibe so it couldn’t be coming out at a better time and I think it represents the album very well.”

Opening with classic West Coast strummed acoustic guitar ‘Watch The Sun Go Down’ shows Morley’s chops as a songwriter, singer and guitarist. Listen carefully and you’ll find some deft, clever lyrics too, shining like mica, that lift the song above the norm: “all that worry and all that stress, chasing money in a viper’s nest.”

‘Watch The Sun Go Down’ is out now on all digital platforms on Conquest Music, whilst its accompanying video can be found on YouTube. Its parent album, ‘Songs from The Blue Room’ is out on 23rd June 2023 on CD, digital and limited-edition blue vinyl. A limited number of signed LPs, CD and an exclusive signed postcard are available to pre-order from Luke’s music store now.
