California-based roots rock band, Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse, who’s core is the dynamic duo of Greta Valenti & Robin Davey, have a house & motown-style recording studio on one of the coolest streets in Riverside, California. Riverside California was once the richest city in America for being the largest exporter of Oranges in the United States. Today Riverside is home to a wonderful rich history of architecture, artists, and artisans. Legends Little Richard and Etta James resided in the community, Cheech Maron (of Cheech and Chong) has opened a multi-million-dollar world renown Latin Arts museum called The Cheech, and The Mission Inn attracts millions of visitors every year for its historical relevance and beauty.
The Beaux Gris Gris duo started restoring the home they call ‘Bungalow Paradise’ during the pandemic in the heart of Downtown Riverside and at the base of beautiful Mt. Rubidoux (a local mountain with a weird Cajun sounding name). The home is a 1908 English Farmhouse Arts & Crafts style home they have built into an artist retreat, urban orchard with over 20 fruit trees and garden, and a motown-style recording studio where they recorded the latest album, Hot Nostalgia Radio. But the house isn’t the only cool thing – it’s the magic of the neighbourhood.
“After being in the area for a short amount of time, we discovered our neighbourhood, and specifically our street was filled with so many amazing individuals.” said Greta. One of those people is Kitten DeVille, one of the originators of the modern burlesque movement. Greta continues, “The foundation of this song I wrote over 10 years ago, but I always imagined it from this angle of a dude singing it to the most beautiful woman in the world. Once I met Kitten, I knew I had to ask her to be in this video, and thankfully she said YES! I had such a crush working with her on set. She is just a lovely human, so talented and glamorous- she was perfect.”
The video features Beaux Gris Gris’ herself, front-woman Greta Valenti, in an Elvis meets Evil Knievel like Rock & Roll suit (created by Chain Driven Apparel) with a pencil-thin moustache crooning and rocking about while Robin Davey shreds on his guitar and Kitten works her magic. “2 minutes of pure eye and ear candy for your rock & roll souls!
