EP REVIEW: Between You & Me – Sh!T Yeah

RELEASED 5 April 24 Independent

April saw Aussie pop-punk rockers Between You & Me release a new collection of songs with the cheeky title, Sh!t Yeah. The EP is the band’s first independent release after they parted ways with their previous record company back in 2022. Each track is fun and energetic, and manages to induce the nostalgic feels if you love the pop-punk sound of the late 2000’s. Kill My Vibe and In the Middle are an upbeat warm-up with their catchy lyrics, and they’re a great taster of what to expect from the rest of the EP.

Between You & Me’s first independent single release, Nevermind opens up with “I got a little fucked up last night”, and feels like a guaranteed anthem with its playful lyrics. Lead singer, Jake Wilson’s punchy vocals are at the forefront of the song to begin with as the instruments take a backseat, before the music amps up in the chorus to get their point across.

One of the standout tracks for me is Every Morning with its lively and almost flirty vibe. YEAH! keeps things entertaining with lyrics like “she’d fuck the mirror if you can’t tell” before Sad Songs drops the tone with its slightly gloomy feel, which also makes it another standout amongst this great compilation. I love when music conveys a very distinct season and Sh!t Yeah just screams summer, so all I could envisage as I listened to it was laying next to a sparkling blue pool on a scorching day with a beer or 6.

Whether pop-punk is your thing or not the EP is definitely worth a listen with its diverse appeal, and if you like what you hear then you’re in luck because the band are about to embark on a headline tour around Australia. They kick-off in their hometown of Melbourne on Friday 17th May, and I dare say given what I’ve heard they’re bound to put on a lively show.
