Gypsy’s Kiss, an integral part of the revered ‘Iron Maiden Family Tree,’ proudly announces their latest milestone: celebrating their 50th Anniversary with the release of a highly anticipated album due for release summer 2024.
The debut single, “We’ve Come To Play,” marks a poignant return for the legacy band. Reflecting on their journey, the song narrates their resurgence after a hiatus following their initial run. However, this return isn’t about vanity, ego, or financial gain; it’s a heartfelt resurgence driven by a profound love for music, the exhilaration of performing live, and the sheer joy of entertaining audiences.
David Smith, the founding cornerstone of the band, describes the single as semi-autobiographical.
The current line-up is David Smith (Vocals and Guitars), Jonathan Morley (Guitars and BVs), Fraser Marr (Guitars), Ross Hunter (Keys and BVs), Robin Gatcum (Bass) and Stuart Emms (Drums).
The accompanying video, shot partly at the iconic venue The Cart and Horses, evokes nostalgia. From intimate studio sessions to informal footage, the video captures the band’s genuine delight in returning to their roots and sharing their passion for music after half a century.
With the album set to launch this summer, David Smith reflects on the band’s journey and says “A 50th anniversary for Gypsy’s Kiss – who would have thought that in 1974, that a raw 19-year-old long haired ‘would be’ musician from east London would still be playing and writing and releasing music after 50 years with top notch musicians and to large and enthusiastic audiences in the UK and Europe? Not me! I couldn’t be more surprised, thrilled and delighted. Long may it continue!”
The forthcoming album promises to be a testament to the band’s enduring legacy and their unwavering commitment to their craft. While deeply rooted in their Maiden lineage, Gypsy’s Kiss remains dedicated to expanding their classic rock resonance to a broader audience.
