LIVE REVIEW: Green Day – Target Field August 17th 2024

Green Day The Saviors Tour 2024. Target Field, Minneapolis, MN Saturday, August 17, 2024

with special guests The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and the Linda Lindas

In this review I’m just going to get right to the meat of everything. Green Day is an amazing band! When they first started out, I saw them on the very first tour. I remember thinking they were a neat little punk band with some pop flare to them. When they started to blow up, the hardcore fans rebelled and said they had sold out. The same thing happened with Metallica. I don’t know where those fans are anymore but that sure doesn’t seem to matter. They played in a packed baseball stadium last night and you couldn’t wipe the smiles off of the fan’s faces.

Of all the different bands that I take photos of and cover, Green Day sticks out to me as one of the amazing success stories. I would have never bet that they would have made it to the level that they have. They have exploded into this incredibly talented band that puts on one hell of a show. There’s no point in going through set lists because it doesn’t really matter what they play. If you go to one of their concerts and you don’t have a good time, you probably need therapy. They will be out on the road for at least another month. My recommendation to you is get out there and see them if you can. It’s completely worth the price of entry.

They had several different bands opening up for them. I’d like to take a moment to speak about rancid. These guys are a punk band from the 80s that I’ve always liked but I’ve never had a chance to actually see live. They were truly incredible last night. I enjoyed every moment of their set, and they still have that intangible punk element to their music that gets mixed with some really cool pop sensibilities. I’m guessing they might kill me if they read this because it isn’t what they are but that’s how I see them. They are a wonderful addition to this bill. If you don’t think you know them, look them up online and you’ll be surprised at how many songs of theirs you know.

A younger new band, the Linda Linda’s opened the show. Ohh, and Smashing Pumpkins were there too.
