“MAGE, the four-piece dynamic fuzz-doom powerhouse made up of Mikey McIntosh, Dean Turner, Anthony Lomma and Clayton Brown, are back and at it again, bringing us their new single, Egypt. Ever the fan of using fuzz and wah pedals to achieve their unique ear-gripping psychedelic sound, Egypt can be described as a song that is heavily influenced by bands like Queens of the Stone Age and Wolfmother.

Egypt is an embodiment of MAGE’s evolution as a band and the path they’ve paved the last few years. Heavy growling riffs lead into the electric-driven lead guitar that cuts through the smooth bass and hard-hitting drums to rip you out of your seat and take you on a journey you never knew you wanted to be on. It is the best first minute of any song I have ever listened to, before Mikey’s vocals kick in, and continue to carry the track into post-doom-rock glory. Egypt is an epic new release from MAGE, and I cannot stop listening.”

MAGE are a hard-hitting 4-piece from Perth, WA who blend heavy riffs with drive-y, fuzz-laden desert rock & pop. Their sound is characterised by overdriven guitar, cutting vocals, monolithic drums, and pervasive basslines. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Queens of the Stoneage, METZ & All Them Witches, they have created an original sound which embraces dynamic extremes.

The band jumped straight onto the scene with a sold-out show supporting Australian prog legends Karnivool in December 2019, and despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the band kept busy building a catalogue of new material which included three new releases in 2022. They have since been nominated for two WAM Song of the Year awards and have supported numerous local and national headliners such as Voyager, The Floors and QLD’s Death By Carrot, with a few big surprises to be announced this year.

Formed in 2019 by members Michael McIntosh and Dean Turner after a spontaneous house party jam, the two began the project riding on a shared energy and dynamic. The later additions of Clayton Brown and Anthony Lomma in 2021 only reinforced the band’s existence by bringing an uncompromising energy to live shows, while adding their own elements to older tracks.

MAGE now move toward their vision of bigger releases as they see how far they can take their ever-progressing sound, with plenty more material in store for the coming year.
