Take it away…

One of my top 10 album list…

Made in Japan – Deep Purple. My absolute favorite live album ever. All of the tracks are real classics and can really tell you what powers this band had especially when Lord and Blackmore improvise, sometimes foraying into Classical themes. Only The Mule is less interesting containing the obligatory drum solo, but even then Paice manages to get you interested.

Life After Death – Iron Maiden. Excellent Songs, Excellent Performance!. The selection of songs is truly good where all the band’s masterpieces are performed at their best.. I used to watch this on VHS before I got it on vinyl. Brings me right back to my room at my parents house when I was 11 . And still one of the maiden records I play the most to this day.

Decade of Aggression – Slayer. Another live record, guess you now know that i love live recordings haha If talking about live shows, you can’t leave out the one recorded in 1991 by the kings of thrash metal. Decade of Aggression is a super double package that captures the band in their golden age, with many of the best. As a Dave Lombardo fan growing up, this one has definitely helped form my drumming style. I used to play drums to this record every day.

Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death – Dead Kennedys. I might be somewhat biased, because this was probably my first introduction to DK, but this always felt to me as a really good cross-cut of what DK were. After I got that album, I got the rest eventually as well. Gotta love some DK.

Under a funeral moon – Darkthrone. Under a funeral moon: This is what distinguishes Darkthrone from the horde. This album really takes me back to the early 90’s. This is the Bret Heart of Black Metal: The Best There Is, the Best There Was, the Best There Ever Will Be.

Woman in uniform”single” Iron Maiden. This was also my introduction to the band. The rest of this 12-inch single has two live cuts that are also found on the Live Plus One release – Phantom Of The Opera and Drifter. The performance is killer. I always keep coming back to this one. Good memories.

Coma of Souls – Kreator.  While a lot of pioneering thrash acts from the mid-80’s were toning down their speed and intensity at the onset of the 90’s, Kreator were still big on the fast thrash attack, as the bulk of these songs still rip. While not as frenzied as their early stuff, it’s still damn speedy and the precision and skills have been dialed up. This is also the record I was introduced to Kreator with. So it holds a special place in me.

Bonded by Blood – Exodus is an aggressive, ass kicking hit between the eyes, it totally blew me away when I listened to it for the first time and the title track “Bonded by Blood” burst out the speakers. Every riff on this album is a killer and the vocals by Paul Baloff are so unique and authentic like nothing else. And the Drummer Tom Hunting ended up to be my Idol to this day. Gotta have some Exodus!

Kill – Cannibal Corpse. The music on “Kill” is brutal and technically well played death metal and it’s in every possible way the unmistakable sound of Cannibal Corpse. The band has always delivered solid brutal death metal releases and this is no exception. This was the first tour I saw them on. As a horror/zombie/slasher movie fan, you gotta love CC.

Faith No More’s 1997 release Album Of The Year is the last great Alternative Metal album Faith No More had in them, and after a couple of lackluster years they came roaring back here at the end right before they broke up. This album just rocks, hard. Patton, Bottum, Gould, and Bordin are all on top of their games and it shows. Always loved that band from their 3’rd album. All completely different albums which I love about that band. And Patton’s voice is gold.
