Following on from the release of their single ‘Heaven‘, Gippsland-based trio Ocean Sleeper have just returned with their latest soaring track ‘Lonely Love‘ featuring Lil Lotus (USA) – produced by the band’s guitarist Ionei Heckenberg at Zanari Records, Naarm/Melbourne.
‘Lonely Love’ is a heartfelt, hook-laden cut of alternative rock that effortlessly blends genres and envelops listeners in a poignant cascade of vocals and instrumentation. The inclusion of American pop-punk/emo rapper Lil Lotus helps lift the track in its crescendoing moments, paired with deft dynamics to create a resounding sing-along atmosphere. The background screams add to the ardent intensity before expertly closing the track with a candid acoustic outro.
Ocean Sleeper describes the inspiration behind the track: “We like to creatively explore emotions of sadness and loneliness and express them in a positive, upbeat and fun way to sing along to. This song is a pretty exciting change-up for us as a heavy band, with no lead scream vocals or breakdowns. In the last few releases, we have been exploring with Karl & Ionei singing cleans and doing scream vocals, so this song was fun to just do cleans but still have its big infectious energy.”
The band will hit the road again for the latest national tour in late April, which is already sold out. Karl reveals, “We are stoked not only to have Lil Lotus featured in this song but also to bring him to Australia for the first time, supporting us on our national sold-out tour! Selling out all cities for this tour in advance is so surreal, and we can’t wait to celebrate the release of ‘Lonely Love’.”
This continues on from a colossal 2023, which saw the band play Good Things Festival, Froth & Fury Festival, UNIFY Gathering and DRPOUT Fest, and support the likes of Make Them Suffer, Sunk Loto and Fit For An Autopsy (USA). They also sold out their previous Australian national tour in late 2022.
Previous releases have been supported by the likes of Spotify (where they currently have 319k monthly listeners), Apple Music, Deezer, Amazon Music and a myriad of online press. In 2019, they were selected as triple j Unearthed‘s Feature Artist and have gone on to garner extensive support from triple j with multiple First Plays and regular airplay.
With the artwork for ‘Lonely Love’, Ocean Sleeper continues an artistic concept; Karl reveals, “We wanted to keep the theme going of getting tattoos each as the artwork. Ionei got his very first tattoo ever for this song art on the palm of his hand!”
