‘Takotsubo’ is Ojay‘s fourth standalone single after the release of their long-awaited concept album ‘The Ride’. This song doesn’t belong to any greater project (yet). ‘Taktosubo’ is Ojay’s hardest hitting song yet, showing a complete 180 on their most recent single ‘December Snow’ – an epic romantic ballad. This single shows that Ojay still have many tricks up their sleeve, and even through a dance-rock lens, and gritty, growling vocals, Ojay’s signature sound will still shine through the speakers.
Lyrically the song is a tongue-in-cheek take on the current “f**kboi” culture, written from the perspective of a womaniser who will never learn his lesson. ‘Takotsubo’ meaning “broken heart syndrome”, as heard in the hook & chorus of the song.
Forming in 2018, Ojay brought their high energy, carefree attitude to the bored youth of suburban Western Australia. Before their 3- year hiatus, the four-piece upbeat pop-rock outfit quickly garnered a reputation for wild, intoxicating live performances up
and down the western seaboard, fusing the high energy rock and punk of the ’80s and ’90s, with the catchy hooks and sing-along melodies of the current pop charts, throwing in a piano ballad or acoustic treat for good measure.
They took a hiatus from 2020 to 2023, which saw a line-up change and the introduction of Skills and Marshy, and returned with their long-awaited sophomore album ‘The Ride’, an hour-long concept record.
