PIERCE BROTHERS Release Soaring New Standalone Single 'RUN AROUND THE LAKE'

Off the back of their hugely successful national headline tour, and ahead of joining British troubadour James Blunt on his national Australian arena run next week, today beloved Melbourne indie folk duo Pierce Brothers gift a brand new standalone single Run Around The Lake; a driving and soaring indie-folk-meets-pop anthem that captures the enigmatic Pierce Brothers live energy with stirring lyricism.

Co-produced by Pierce Brothers, aka twin brothers Jack and Patrick Pierce, alongside returning collaborator Phil Threlfall (Pierce Brothers, Illy, Bliss n Eso), Run Around The Lake delectably doubles down on everything that has cemented the Pierce Brothers as one of Australia’s brightest stars: soaring choruses, emphatic vocals, rollicking melodics and a rousing outro bookending the steady dynamic build throughout. And in trademark Pierce Brothers fashion, Run Around The Lake lyrically beats with affecting meaning, poignantly reflecting on the touring life of a musician, missing home while on the road; and the track was ultimately penned during a difficult moment on tour, as Jack Pierce reveals, “This was written while on tour in Europe. Both Pat and myself were sick with the flu and had to cancel shows. It’s a song about self-doubt ultimately, I was wondering why I was going through all this if I’m missing my family the whole time!”

Inspired by the storytelling prowess of Noah Kahan as well as their live audiences at large, Pierce Brothers once again strike gold with their latest single, with Run Around The Lake also recorded in Jack Pierce’s home studio, following suit with their acclaimed 2024 full length album Everything Is Bigger Than Me, which also saw the band debut at #1 on the ARIA Australia Albums Charts and at #14 on the overall Albums Charts. And via Run Around The Lake, Pierce Brothers also tick off the first single to be released from their very own new record label, Woolstore Records, capturing the magnetic essence a live Pierce Brothers experience offers. “The first part I’d written in this track was the ‘ohhs’ at the end,” Jack Pierce shares. “I immediately felt excited about an audience singing them along with us. I had them at first bookending the song but in the end, we saved it for a coda. I can’t wait to get this one onstage and see how we loud we can get everyone singing! Noah Kahan was a big influence on the sound too as I’ve really been loving his music for the last few months! The main influence on the vibe of the track was inspired in the first instance by our live audience. I wanted to make it an ‘audience song’ akin to other Pierce Brothers tracks like Brother or Amsterdam!”

A continuously flourishing jewel in the Australian indie folk, blues and roots scene, the Pierce Brothers success story stemmed from humble origins, with the pair busking on Bourke Street in their early years before going on to headline sold out venues around the globe, generating over 40 million global streams, enamouring festival crowds and support the likes of Tones and I, Tash Sultana, The Cat Empire, Broken Bones and many more. Along the way, the duo’s musical output has consistently grown along with their stellar reputation, from their top 15 ARIA debut album, 2018’s Atlas Shoulders, to releasing two top 10 ARIA EPs, Into The Dirt (2015) and The Records Were Ours (2017), a sophomore album Into The Great Unknown in 2020 and, as of 2024, a whole new era courtesy of Everything Is Bigger Than Me, which garnered both chart success as well as rave critical reviews. With 2024 also marking 10 years since the band’s acclaimed EP The Night Tree thrust them into the spotlight, fittingly Pierce Brothers also returned to their roots earlier this year during their new album’s release week, taking things back to where it all began with a busking trip down the East Coast.

Kicking off the year with their biggest European run to date, with the majority of shows selling out, Pierce Brothers also most recently completed a massive Australian headline run with multiple sold out shows in conjunction with the release of Everything Is Bigger Than Me. Pierce Brothers also took to the stage at 2024’s Byron Bay Bluesfest alongside the esteemed likes of Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss, Dan Sultan, Rickie Lee Jones and many more, and are also set to perform as part of the iconic festivals final lineup in 2025, featuring Crowded House, Vance Joy, Ocean Alley, Tones And I and a horde of other incredible acts, as well as a fourth appearance at Mundi Mundi Bash locked and loaded next year.

But 2024 still has some incredible performances also lying in wait from the formidable Pierce Brothers, with the duo imminently set to support James Blunt nationally, touring sold out arenas across the country, kicking off on Thursday November 21 in Brisbane before heading to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and closing out in Perth on Thursday November 28; and the pair will be armed with their brand new track launched via their own record label, Woolstore Music, as well as plenty of other Pierce Brothers gems.

“We’re both really stoked to have made the step into launching our own label,” Jack concludes. “We’re looking forward to exploring options of building it out with other artists and are very exceed to see where it takes us!
