HOON Announce New Album ‘Speed and Fatigue’, Reveal Lead Single ‘Simon Says’

Extensive European Tour Dates Announced

Dharawal/Wollongong garage-punk outfit HOON today announce their new album ‘Speed and Fatigue‘, out Friday, May 30, alongside an upcoming extensive European Tour. To mark this exciting announcement, the band has unleashed the first taste of the record with their ferocious single ‘Simon Says‘ – produced by Jeremy Player and The Shed Sound Laboratory (Pist Idiots, The Pinheads, Chimers).

Kicking off with a barrage of jagged riffs and a full-throttle rhythm section, ‘Simon Says’ smashes straight into Daniel Breda‘s raw, visceral vocals saturated with urgency. Atmospheric leads cut through the chaos as the track builds tension and explodes with unadulterated aggression. Packed with spitfire verses and chant-along hooks, ‘Simon Says’ is punk rock at its fiercest, and begs to be screamed back without inhibition in a sweaty mosh pit.

HOON talk about the inspiration behind ‘Simon Says’: “Lyrically, ‘Simon Says’ delves into the impacts of divorce on youth development, exploring confusion and identity through confrontational wordplay. The song’s unrelenting energy mirrors this turbulence. We recorded this song with Jeremy at the same place where we recorded our first ever tracks 10+ years ago – back then, we used a budget SM58 dangling from a ceiling fan and a JVC tape deck. A lot’s changed since, and it felt like a full-circle moment.”

Staying true to their DIY ethos, HOON reveal a gritty music video accompanying this release, filmed by Breda in his lounge room. Vivid red monochromatic sequences of a family dinner depict their slow and untimely ruination caused by addiction. The band explains, “It conveys the chronology of a relationship breakdown due to alcohol and gambling abuse in a tongue-in-cheek way by placing the characters as a family of dice. It’s a funny visual portrayal of the emotional unravelling described in the song.”

To coincide with the release of ‘Speed and Fatigue’, HOON are gearing up for their second European tour with over thirty shows across the Netherlands, Prague, Germany, France, Spain and Switzerland in June and July. The group will also make a pit stop in Stuttgart (DEU) to support Slaughterhouse (USA). There will also be Australian tour dates announced in the near future.

This follows performing with acts like SPEEDBelair Lip BombsClowns, and Snooper (USA), packing out their eleven-date ‘Australian Dream‘ east coast headline tour, and appearances at LOW-L FEST (ITA), Great Southern Nights and last year’s BIGSOUND Showcase.

Singles off their record ‘Australian Dream’ received widespread blog support from Pilerats, Backseat Mafia (UK/AUS), Tone Deaf, AAA Backstage, Something You Said, MILKY, Life Music Media and Illawarra Mercury. They’ve also received extensive radio love from Australian radio stations triple j, triple j Unearthed, FBi, 3RRR, PBS FM, 2SER, 4ZZZ, 2XX, RTR FM, Edge RadioRadio Adelaide, and NPR (USA).

HOON are incredibly passionate about helping build the arts in their hometown, and have run all ages festivals such as ‘All Of Us‘, ‘Crown Street Takeover‘, ‘Hoon-Fest‘ and ‘The Gong Crawl‘, the last of which had over 150 contributors, spanned ten venues, 60+ bands, DJs and an art exhibition. HOON have teased the return of ‘The Gong Crawl’ for 2025. In 2024, the band founded a not-for-profit organisation, Speed Drive INC, to support the careers of artists and musicians by providing them with performance and exhibition opportunities.

‘Simon Says’ is available worldwide now.
