Rising Perth band Interflow are set to release their new single, Leaving Without You, on Thursday, January 30. A song that combines the band’s classic ’70s rock roots with a fist-pumping ’90s pop-punk feel Leaving Without You is a song about the moment of realisation that things are not working out between two people, sung in the moment before one of them walks out.
‘And so I’ll tell my story true
Your lies and mistakes
Your poison attitude
You made me change the man I am
Won’t come crawling to the end
And I’m sick of this
So I’m leaving without you’
“The song is in essence about walking out on a love that didn’t work out,” explains vocalist, Jacob Willis-Fulford, “but also feeling that positive liberation of starting over.”
“Leaving Without You was one of those songs that just came together,” adds lead guitarist Will Gibbs. “Jacob and I were around his house on a weekend, we had an acoustic guitar out, and it pretty much just dropped into our laps. There’s a bit of a nod to some musicians in the family as well, with a couple of the chord progressions. There’s a bit of inspiration drawn from that, but it’s one of those nice moments where it just happens nice and quickly… one of those songs that just clicked.”
Recorded with Elliot Smith at Sundown Studios with vocals laid down at Emerald Room Studios with Emmett Carroll, Leaving Without You is the first of multiple single releases from Interflow in 2025 and you better believe they’ll launch it in style.
