Skegss today shared their refreshing new earworm ‘So Excited‘ via a First Play on triple j Drive with Phil Fresh, out now via Loma Vista Recordings. The track arrives on the heels of a triumphant run on Laneway Festival, and at the start of the band’s five-week North American tour–underway now with a show tonight in Vancouver, BC. “This song came together real quick in the studio, it took us a couple of days to feel the structure out, but the whole thing felt like a nice impulse that we rode,” says singer/guitarist Ben Reed of ‘So Excited’ recorded with longtime collaborator Chris Collins (who worked with the band on their first two albums, Rehearsal and My Own Mess). “Instead of making things complicated, let’s all agree to disagree more and enjoy the same things we all like as people. Hope you find yourself a nice cold beer and enjoy it. We all have a past and we all have a future. Cheers 🍻.”
He adds of the Kale Neville-directed video: “The video clip also came together really last minute, Kale did a great job of making sense of the lyrics and vision and bringing it to a nice light. We want to thank everyone that helped to pull it off and for going to such great efforts on short notice. It was such a fun day making it, it feels magic when you wing things and they somehow work out.”
The song is Skegss’ first new music since the October 2024 release of their recent album Pacific Highway Music, which earned praise and support from The AV Club (‘Undercover’ session), Rolling Stone Australia, Best Show with Tom Scharpling, NPR Music (‘NMF playlist’), FLOOD Magazine, Paste (Illegal Sessions), and more.
