Volume Dealer is a brand new online show designed to showcase and promote the best live bands in Melbourne Australia. The show consists of around 5 tracks recorded live in the studio, plus an interview with one of the members that is shown between
each song.
To coincide with each episode we also release limited edition pre-order merch items that are available for three weeks after the episode goes to air. The merch is printed inhouse at our Volume Dealer HQ located in Brooklyn in Melbourne’s west. We also
record, film and edit the episodes here as well.
The objective of the show is to help promote the bands and our services and try and make some money for us both in the process. Outside of the show Volume Dealer is also a merch company specialising in band merch, plus we have filming and recording services as well.
Once the show goes to air, we then promote the pre-order campaign by splitting it up into small segments of either the live songs or the interview bits and disseminate it on our various social media platforms, collaborating with the artists as well. This gives the band a full three weeks of high quality content that we hope encourages their fans to support the band by buying the limited edition merch.
We also run a deal with the artists that if they wish to get some of the items printed in a separate print run (to sell at shows for example). What profit they make from the pre-orders can go towards paying off the run, therefore reducing the amount they need to pay for their merch.
As a bonus gift for each of the limited edition items that are sold, the fans also get a bonus CD of the live set. If the fans wish to download the live set they can also get that from our Bandcamp page.
Volume Dealer is the brainchild of Dan McDougall who has been apart of the music scene in one way or another since the 90’s, having played in numerous bands including Frankenbok for many years. He also started a merch company back in 2004 that was pioneering back then as it provided a service that was affordable to smaller artists which was unheard at the time and allowed these smaller artists to get merch printed. He has also had his own record label, fanzines and radio shows over the years and has done a bunch of video and audio production as well. Volume Dealer is the culmination of all of that experience, taking the three things he loves most which are filming live bands, recording live bands and printing band merch and putting them all in the one project.
He is also joined by his brother Ando McDougall who is on board and helping with filming the episodes and band bookings. Ando has also been in the industry for many years, having also played in a bunch of bands including legendary Australian metal band Dreadnaught and working in the back end of musical instrument retail for years, as well as being integral to OPENLIVE, a pioneering start-up company dedicated to capturing live performances at venues and rehearsal spaces. So far Volume Dealer has been an incredibly rewarding experience for everyone involved, with the bands that have been apart of it praising the experience from start to finish. 2025 is already shaping up with some killer bands already booked in and we can’t wait to show the world the unbelievable talent we have in this town!
